The Fairfield Horseshoe
24th August 08
It was I lovely warm summers day, which was a shame as I wasn't properly prepared. I big thick coat and hardly any fluids. Parked in Ambleside and found the trail Nook Lane. I made my way to Low Sweden Bridge and the trek commenced.
The route continues upwards towards Low Pike and the on up to High Pike. From Low Pike up to Dove Crag the path follows a dry stone wall, the path was well wore, but not to marshy.
From Dove Crag the path gets a little sparse as it goes over approx 200yds of scaggy rock up Hart Crag. The path so appears more defined as it slowly descends before the the ascent to Fairfield. The walk despite the tiredness from the walk up, is the most awesome sight. With Helvellyn to the north and Scarfell Pike in front off to the east. When you look left to the south the view of Rydal Beck winding down the valley to Windermere. With the fine weather I had it was a very poetic atmosphere up there.
After a quick pause and look around it was time to start the return.
I was not properly prepared for this walk I was a little tired. I had the wrong
clothing and not enough water due to the wrong information on the route card.
The ascent was welcomed, but not wholly enjoyed. the path was a gentle decent
all the way to Nab Scar.
The decent of Nab Scar the way I was feeling was like torture. It is very steep and the NT have kindly put steps into the path and staggered it to reduce the gradiance.
